    NursingHomeIQ Analysis

    Summary

The data profile for this five-bed non-profit facility reflects a history of zero health inspection findings and staffing levels that significantly exceed state averages, though records show nineteen uncorrected fire safety technical findings.

    Detailed Analysis

Analysis of federal records indicates a high level of performance in health inspection categories. The facility has recorded zero health-related inspection findings across the two most recent survey cycles, a metric that places it significantly above the Ohio state average of 10.2 findings. Case-mix data shows that total hours of nursing care per resident per day have increased by approximately 4.3% over a two-year period, reaching 10.32 hours. This level of staffing is notably higher than both the state average and the national average for comparable facilities.

While the primary health inspection records are clear of citations, public safety data shows nineteen uncorrected fire safety findings from August 2022. These findings involve technical requirements for fire alarm systems, the fire resistance rating of smoke barriers, and electrical wiring standards. Financial and administrative records show stability, with zero fines or payment denials issued by federal regulators. The facility operates as part of a non-profit chain where the average overall rating is 4.4 out of 5, suggesting consistency with its affiliated organizations. The data reflects a very small-scale clinical environment, with five licensed beds and an average daily census of one resident.

    Key Findings

Zero health inspection findings were recorded during the most recent standard survey cycle, compared to a state average of 10.2 findings per cycle.

The facility reports a staffing level of 10.32 total hours of nursing care per resident per day, which significantly exceeds the Ohio state average of 3.722 hours.

Nineteen uncorrected fire safety findings were documented in 2022, including issues related to fire alarm maintenance and smoke barrier construction.

    Performance Trends (24 months)

This shows how the facility's federal ratings have changed over the past 24 months. Consistent high ratings suggest stable quality, while declining trends may warrant further investigation.

"My wife and I moved to Kendal at Oberlin almost seven years ago. It was ideally suited for us -- nonprofit, located close to a top institution of higher learning with outstanding music, art, and sense of community, and filled with active residents from all over the country who bring an extraordinary range of experiences. The housing, dining, health care, and other services are first-rate. It's not inexpensive, but it's worth it. We love it."

"Very expensive and they charge extra for every little thing. You pay a lot to buy in, and you can't sell it, then you pay a very high monthly bill. The food has gone downhill....very bland...and the healthcare needs improvement. It is a good place if you are healthy and mobile but if you are ill or frail, not so much."

    Michele Weilnau★★★★★11/9/2019

"Super accommodations. Can't believe how much room my dear friend has here. Taken care of so nicely. Is a great place to move to when the time comes"

    Marjorie Porter★★★★★2/24/2017

"Ten days after we moved here nearly four years ago, I asked my husband how it felt to be here. While I was an Oberlin College alumna and former staff member, he had no Oberlin ties. "I feel more at home here than I did in 50 years in East Lansing," he said. Meantime, we often say to each other how lucky we are that there is a Kendal at Oberlin and that we get to be part of it. We love contributing to several of the 100+ resident-created and -run committees and interest groups and benefiting from others...not to mention all the concerts, lectures, theater, and college classes we can audit free of charge. It's no wonder that the average age of new residents is younger than elsewhere. In addition to the vibrant community, there's great food, a lovely campus, an outstanding administration, and wonderful care for residents who are ill or frail."

"Kendal provides a great upscale retirement experience for the many people who can afford it. The Kendall staff goes to whatever lengths necessary to keep Kendai a wonderful fairyland in which bad things happen only to people elsewhere. The business planning model for Kendal appears to consists mostly of extrapolating the status quo and not doing a lot of thinking outside of the box about how our radically unstable and changing world will impact Kendal in the future. The more you hate President Trump the happier you will be at Kendal."

"Kendal is amazing! Everything about that place is great. My daughter went to the preschool and learned so much."
