    Summary

Bethany on University is a high-staffed non-profit facility characterized by zero recent financial penalties, high nursing-to-resident ratios, and a recent reduction in health inspection findings, though it faces elevated staff turnover.

    Detailed Analysis

Bethany on University maintains high levels of clinical staffing relative to both state and national benchmarks. Data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows the facility provides 5.31 total hours of nursing care per resident per day, significantly exceeding the North Dakota state average of 4.41 hours. Of this time, 1.05 hours are provided by registered nurses and 3.62 hours are provided by certified nursing assistants. While overall staffing is high, the facility does experience a 11.3% reduction in nursing hours during weekend shifts, and the annual turnover rate for nursing staff is 52.8%, which is higher than the state average of 49%. Notably, the facility utilizes very little contract or agency staffing, with 0% of nursing assistant hours and 9.9% of registered nurse hours coming from temporary staff, suggesting higher continuity of care compared to facilities with heavier agency reliance.

The inspection history indicates a downward trend in health-related issues. The most recent standard survey identified two findings, down from five the year prior. Recent citations include concerns regarding medication error rates and infection control protocols, though most were categorized as causing minimal harm. Public records show no financial penalties or fines issued against the facility in the last three years. The facility is operated by a non-profit corporation and has had zero administrator departures in the current reporting period, indicating stability in leadership despite the high turnover among frontline nursing staff. Compared to North Dakota averages, this facility maintains higher staffing ratings and fewer health inspection findings per cycle.

"My 96 year old mom came to Bethany Rehab after knee surgery. We were met at the door by Jamie and Walter (the bestest boy-Golden Retriever/St Bernard/gentle giant). I knew then that we were in the right place. Mom was a resident for almost a month. Caregivers, from the cleaning staff all the way to medical staff, were all kind and caring. Vel, the nurse we had the most contact with, was always smiling and attentive to all mom's needs. Mom had access to various activities each day. She enjoyed the Church services and the birds. She got a great haircut and style at the salon. We would definitely recommend Bethany on University!"

"I am here at the rehab facility until I have surgery in March. From my first visit with a representative to right now, it’s been a wonderful experience. I deal with a lot of pain and am unable to walk because of it. The staff, the food, the rehab facility, and all else I’ve experienced here has been five star and nothing less. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a home away from home, consider Bethany. Thank you! Frank Hunkler"

"I am writing for my 96 year old mother who spent time in the Bethany TCU. She had amazing care from very attentive, empathetic staff. Her room was pleasing, comfortable, and well tended. She felt safe, and that the staff genuinely cared about her and her well being. There was not a single episode of her pushing a call button and then having to wait a long time before someone would come to her room. When she was discharged, a number of staff came to her room to give her a hug and wish her well. A bonus was visits from Walter (a wonderful, gentle, huge Saint Bernard/Poodle cross). I highly recommend this Bethany TCU without hesitation."
