    NursingHomeIQ Analysis

    Summary

This non-profit facility demonstrates significantly higher-than-average nursing hours and high staff stability, though recent inspection records show an increase in administrative and fire safety findings.

    Detailed Analysis

Data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services indicates a high level of nursing care at this facility. Total nursing care hours are recorded at 5.13 hours per resident per day, which is notably higher than the Illinois state average of 3.49 hours. This includes 1.84 hours of registered nurse care daily, more than double the state average. When examining staffing stability, the facility reports a nursing turnover rate of 30.6%, which is lower than the state average of 45.7%. The use of contract or agency staff remains low at 3.9%, suggesting a reliance on permanent employees rather than temporary staff.

While staffing metrics are high, recent inspection records show an increase in findings. The most recent health survey in March 2025 identified four findings, an increase from zero findings in the previous cycle. These included issues with immediate care planning and administrative requirements for registered nurse presence. Additionally, fire safety records show 25 uncorrected findings related to emergency power systems and fire alarm testing. However, the facility has no record of federal fines or payment denials in the current reporting period. The drop in nursing care during weekends is approximately 9%, which shows relatively consistent staffing levels compared to weekday operations.

    Key Findings

Registered nurse care levels are significantly higher than the Illinois average, providing 1.84 hours per resident per day compared to the state average of 0.73 hours.

Staffing stability is reflected in a 30.6% total nursing turnover rate and zero administrator departures in the last year, both of which are below state averages.

The most recent inspection identified four findings including a failure to meet immediate needs within 48 hours of admission and issues regarding the presence of a registered nurse for 8 hours daily.

    Performance Trends (24 months)

This shows how the facility's federal ratings have changed over the past 24 months. Consistent high ratings suggest stable quality, while declining trends may warrant further investigation.

"I have parents at The Mather and my siblings and I are very glad they're there. I moved to the Chicago area to be closer to them, and visit and dine with them often. The facilities and activities are outstanding, and the food service is quite good. Very dedicated and caring staff members though a bit of turnover probably because of work hours and wage structures. I've also gotten to know many of the other residents. It is a fascinating and interesting group, and I'm saddened when they leave, which does happen from time to time. Have also gotten to know children of other residents, and we share a common connection of trying to comfort parents in their later years, knowing they're in a good place."

"My mother lives here. It's beautiful. The problem is that neither my siblings nor I live nearby. We are all out of state. She has had a few minor accidents and they have no first aid. If a resident or family member contacts the concierge, they will call an ambulance and take the resident to the emergency room. So my mother never asks for help. They also have never notified me or any of my siblings when she has gone to the emergency room....worse yet, when she came to visit me out of state last month, they didn't know where she was an didn't notify family until 5 days after she left!. She filled out two forms about the fact that she would be gone, where she would be, whether she wanted cleaning service, etc. And they didn't know she was gone, though had not seen her. She was gone for 14 days! This is an extremely expensive place and shame on The Mather for not providing first aid, for misusing the emergency rooms, for not keeping better track of my missing mother, and for their failure to keep families apprised of their loved ones' state of being."

"Don’t move to this place. The Mather took my grandma’s money, gave her an apartment, brought her in to discuss renovations to her unit. She listed the home she lived in for 40 years for sale to move to the Mather, and got rid of a lot of her things. A few weeks prior to her move-in date, The Mather called to say they’re not accepting her after all. This made no sense! Why put an 80+ year-old person through this, and get them through the process, only to pull the plug at the 11th hour? Their policies are bizarre, and it sounds like the management doesn’t care about their community if they have no regard for how they treat newcomers."

"Very nice place.. the atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. The staff are all nice and courteous. For me, it’s one of the best place that I’ve been to. I’m a caregiver and I were sent to many Senior Homes just like this one. And this one, I highly recommend it."
